Your Discovery Flight, step by step

Before you fly
You start on the ground with a genuine pre-flight brief: how the airplane flies, what each control does, and exactly what the two of you are going to do once the propeller turns. Then you walk out and pre-flight the Cherokee 140 together.

In the air
You are in the left seat with your hands on the yoke, flying out over the Southwest Florida coast with your instructor beside you on a full set of dual controls. Climbs, turns, level flight — you do the flying.

Back on the ramp
You shut down and debrief: what went well, what surprised you, and what a real training plan would look like from here. You leave with an official logbook entry that counts toward your 40 hours — and no obligation to book anything else.

A Discovery Flight is designed to help you experience the aircraft, the instructor, and the training environment before committing to a larger plan. If you decide flying is for you, it’s also how you judge us: the airplane, the instructor, and whether our approach fits how you want to learn.

Is the $175 Discovery Flight a lesson or a sightseeing trip?
A lesson. You get a real pre-flight briefing, you fly from the left seat with your hands on the yoke, and it ends with a logbook entry signed by your instructor that counts toward the 40 hours the FAA requires.
What should I bring, and what should I wear?
Photo ID, sunglasses, and shoes you can walk on a ramp in. Everything else — headset, charts, aircraft — is here. Leave time either side of the flight for the brief and the debrief.
How much of the flying will I actually do?
As much as you want to. Your instructor handles the takeoff and landing on a first flight; the climb, the cruise and the turns over the coast are yours.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
We move it, at no cost. Southwest Florida gives us 300 or more flyable days a year, so a scrubbed morning is usually a rebooked afternoon rather than a lost week.
Am I committing to anything by booking one?
No. It is one flight, paid once. There is no package to sign and no expectation that you book a second lesson before you have decided you want to.
